Making Sanitation Sexy
Making sanitation sexy. That is Suraj Sudhakar's, Acumen Fund Fellow alumni, goal. I have not doubt he will succeed.
I just met Suraj this morning and we discussed his new position at PeePoople, an organization working to bring sustainable sanitation solutions to the slums in Kenya and around the world. PeePoople has developed a biodegradable bag that can collect people's refuse, degrade it, and then use it as fertilizer. While this is an incredible innovation the real challenge, as it always seems to be, is the business model. Suraj, as the feet on the ground in Kenya, is building the business plan which will lay out the model to distribute the bag, collect the refuse, store it until it is legitimate fertilizer, and then market and sell it to farmers as fertilizer...
No this is certainly not an easy task but it is truly one worth undertaking. What if together we could help transform the face of the slums.. now that is truly moral imagination.. thanks for all you do Suraj...
